What Jewellers Need To Know
BIS hallmarking provides third-party assurance of declared purity and fineness. Articles submitted through BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centres are tested and hallmarked only when they conform to the applicable Indian Standards.
Gold Hallmarking
Gold articles are marked with the BIS Standard Mark, the applicable purity or fineness mark, and a unique six-digit alphanumeric HUID for individual traceability.
HUID Verification
Consumers can use the BIS Care App to verify the HUID on a hallmarked gold article and review the available hallmarking details.
Silver Standard Update
Revised IS 2112:2025 introduces HUID-based hallmarking for silver on a voluntary basis from 1 September 2025.
